According to a new report, Finland, Lithuania, and Sweden experienced the biggest declines in natural gas consumption.
Between August 2022 and January 2023, Europe’s natural gas consumption decreased by 19.3%.
According to the most recent Eurostat report, of all the European nations, Ireland saw the smallest drop in gas consumption during this time, at just -0.3%.
Although Slovenia and Spain both experienced significant drops, of -14.2% and -13.7%, respectively, they have not yet attained the 15% goal.
Last year, European ministers decided to voluntarily reduce their nations’ gas consumption by 15% from 1 August 2022 to 31 March 2023 in an effort to get ready for a complete disruption of Russian gas this winter.
According to the European Union’s statistical office, consumption decreased the most in Sweden (-40.2%), Finland (-57.3%), and Lithuania (-47.9%).
